TRACY FRENCH
Inspirational Portrait
“The most wonderful inspirations die with their subject, if he has no hand to paint them to the senses."
-Ralph Waldo Emmerson

Essential Questions- What you will consider
1. How do I create a variety of values (light and dark)?
2. How do these values communicate the illusion of fom (3D) in a painting?
3. How does attention to detail affect the final outcome of a piece?
4. How is my motivation affected when I am able to choose the inspirational focus for my work?
5. How do I respond to frustration and challenge?

Project Goals- What you will do
1. Select a person as the focus of your inpirational portrait.
2. Write a biography for the person you have selected (1 paragraph) and explain your personal connection to that person (1 paragrpah).
3. Using photoshop, alter the image with the "cutout" filter to separate the values in the image.
4. Use a projector to trace the value shapes to a canvas.
5. Paint the values using your own mixtures of acrylic paints and choose a backgroud color that best honors your subject.
6. Seek out critique from peers and your instructor.
Project Grouping
Work alone on this piece, but look for critique and support from your peers.
