Selfie Project October 2014

Use your image to communicate your unique human experience.

Our first selfies appeared on the walls of El Castillo Cave with hands silhouetted in red. Artists have used every medium to capture their own image and reveal something about the way they experience the world. Now, with the availability of smart phones and social media, people are sharing their image with the world each and every minute.

Essential Questions- What you will consider
  • Why do some people love selfies while other people despise them?

  • How does controlling our own image affect people?

  • How do we move from a quick snapshot to a thoughtful, artistic self portrait?

  • How does a caption or title affect an audience interpretation of a self portrait?

  • How have instagram, tumblr, snapchat, and vine impacted us? How have hashtags affected us?

Project Goals- What you will do

  1. Design a thoughtful image of yourself that communicates a specific idea or message. Use setting, props, lighting, or filters to achieve your desired affect. Include a caption to guide a viewer's experience.

  2. Share your idea with a critique group.

  3. Consider critique and implement your idea.

  4. Upload your image and caption to the class Google folder.

  5. Write a thoughtful reflection on your thinking.

  6. Upload image, caption, and reflection to your digital portfolio.

Project Grouping
You are on your own for this one, but you will participate in a 3 person critique group.
