Altered Books

Project Overview

Students will create an altered book to reveal a significant scene, setting, or symbol from their reading. Books, taken from their literature circles on immigration, will be cut, colored, and reassembled. Final student work will be shared with local libraries and displayed in the halls of HTMNC.

Artist Inspiration

We will study the paper sculptures of artist, Su Blackwell. Su's work focuses predominantly on fairy tales and folklore. After reading a book, she develops a plan for delicately restructuring the pages of the book. Su's book sculptures are on display in London through January 2013.
