Students are reading The Scarlet Ibis by James Hurst. They are constructing a thoughtful Response to Literature Essay about Brother's role in Doodle's life and how intentions scar an outcome.
Essay Steps
1. Read and discuss The Scarlet Ibis. Gather quotes from the text as a class.
2. Explore the essay structure and essay terminology.
3. Quiz on essay terminology.
4. Develop a strong thesis.
5. Outline the essay to support thesis.
6. Rough drafts.
7. Peer edits and critique from HTHNC 12th Grade Students
8. Final draft.
9. Reflection on draft revisions.

We are taking this opportunity to create a Writing Portfolio. In this binder, students will keep their 8th grade writing pieces. Binders live in the classroom for safekeeping but students may scan or photograph their work anytime to share with their families.
